Paige's process- Ball State baseball vs. university of central florida
Paige Grider
In this series, I will take you through my thought processes and camera settings and the equipment I used to take my top photos from the various events of the BSU Spring Training trip.

Play at Third
Camera Settings:
Camera: Canon EOS 7D Mark II
Lens: Canon Sigma 150-600 mm f/5- f/6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 16000
Shutter: 1/1250
Thoughts:
At John Euliano Park on the campus of the University of Central Florida there are stairwells beside each dugout to get down to field level. They were the perfect spot to get an unobstructed view of the game. The stairs were almost directly in line with first and third base. I was looking to get a detail shot of the ball when I took this. The ball being in the air adds to the dynamic of the photo.

Joy of Baseball

Thoughts:
Towards the end of the Cardinals’ thirteen inning game against UCF the Knights switched out pitchers again. While standing on third waiting for the pitcher to finish his warmup Drey Jameson joked around with his teammates. So many sports photos are serious, especially in a thirteen inning game, it was nice to get an image of pure happiness. The fact that his head is tilted up is one of the main reasons this photo works. If it hadn’t been, Jameson’s eyes would be in shadow and the emotion would not be as present in the photo.

Runner on Third

Thoughts:
When I am shooting I am always looking for detail shots. During a thirteen inning game you have to keep looking for ways to keep the game interesting otherwise the photos will all start to look the same. When Ball State got a runner on third I started taking detail shots of his feet on the bag. Once I started going through my photos after the game I noticed that the base has the UCF logo and slogan on it which adds context.
